World Space Week

What is "World Space Week" (WSW)?

Sputnik 1

World Space Week celebrates the contribution of space science and technology to the betterment of the human condition. Endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly in December 1999, it marks the anniversary of two milestones in the human exploration and use of outer space:

October 4, 1957: Launch of the first human-made Earth satellite, Sputnik, thus opening the way for space exploration, and
October 10, 1967: The signing of the Outer Space Treaty governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, Including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies.

Therefore, the World Space Week takes place every year from October 4th to October 10th.

Since 2007 we organize every year during the Worlds Space Week our "Payerne Space Day "with primary school children from around Payerne (VD) and the "World Space Week on the Air".

The following pages will give you an overview of our "World Space Week" (WSW) activities.
